fuel vehicles will be banned from 2035

In order to further reduce carbon emissions and finally achieve the national goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050, the Canadian government officially confirmed that the sale of fuel vehicles will be banned from 2035, which is five years earlier than the originally set 2040 deadline.

The province of Quebec in Canada has previously set a time limit on its own to ban the sale of fuel vehicles in 2035. A few days ago, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he would follow up with Quebec’s plans; starting in 2035, Canada will start nationwide. All brand-new passenger cars and light trucks sold must be 100% zero carbon emissions, which means that from 2035, no matter whether it is a gasoline-electric or plug-in electric vehicle, it will not continue to be sold in Canada.

After Canada’s “abandon oil and switch to electricity” deadline ahead of schedule, Keith Brooks of Environmental Defense, an environmental organization, agreed with this and said: “If the carbon emissions of cars, SUVs and pickup trucks that are currently growing are not reduced, Canada will Unable to achieve the goal of reducing carbon emissions". But Keith Brooks also pointed out that only 3.5% of the vehicles currently sold in Canada are electric vehicles, so the government needs to take more measures to increase the share of electric vehicles.

In this regard, the Canadian government stated that it will continue to combine investment and regulations to help the industry upgrade and transform, and achieve the goal of zero carbon emissions for new car sales in 2035 through comprehensive supporting facilities.
