The textile industry is facing significant pressure to transform developing high-performance materials

The textile industry is facing significant pressure to transform. By capitalizing on global market trends, domestic textile manufacturers are actively developing high-performance materials and entering the supply chains for the military, drone, and aerospace industries.

Shinkong Synthetic Fibers (SSFC) has established a drone park in Yangmei, while Chia Her Industrial, a functional fabric and industrial yarn manufacturer, has obtained the AS9100 Aerospace Quality Management System certification as it expands into the aerospace supply chain.

Acegeek (Julong Fiber), a composite fiber material manufacturer, announced that it has developed high-performance material solutions for the structures and protection systems of unmanned vehicles, marking its entry into the drone and robotics industry chains.

Quang Viet Enterprise (KWA), a high-performance apparel manufacturer, is deepening its layout in the specialized application clothing sector. Its military-grade functional clothing has already participated in national defense procurement tenders.

Key Developments by Major Players

  • Shinkong Synthetic Fibers (SSFC): At the "Youth Startup Village and Smart Manufacturing Park," the company is building Northern Taiwan's largest drone startup center. This park integrates production, R&D, test flights, and licensing. SSFC stated that as Taiwan's technology advances, the group must keep pace; the "Smart Manufacturing Park" symbolizes their transition from traditional manufacturing to high-tech fields.

  • Acegeek (Julong Fiber): The core material technology introduced this time utilizes PA6 glass fiber-reinforced flame-retardant composite materials for drone structures. These materials meet the UL94 V-0 flame retardant standard, effectively preventing airframe combustion in the event of battery or electronic component failure. This technology is critical for drone frames, mechanical parts, and battery compartment structures.

  • Quang Viet Enterprise (KWA): The company has been actively participating in defense-related procurement for equipment such as rifle magazine pouches and grenade pouches. It has already secured "reserved award" status from the Army Logistics Command for certain projects. KWA noted that unlike traditional garment businesses subject to economic cycles, defense demand is highly inelastic with stable budgets, which will help optimize their operational mix and serve as a growth engine.

  • Chia Her Industrial: Leveraging its R&D capabilities in functional fabrics, Chia Her is extending into high-polymer composite materials. Applications are shifting from functional textiles to high-specification automotive and aerospace markets. The company is reportedly in talks with several airlines and aircraft manufacturers, focusing on aircraft seat fabrics for both passenger cabins and crew training seats.
