Since the implementation of economic reforms (Doi Moi) in 1986, Vietnam's economic growth over the past 39 years has been remarkable. The annual GDP growth rate has consistently maintained a range of 6-8%, transforming Vietnam from an impoverished nation with a GDP per capita of just USD 230 into a significant economy with a GDP per capita of USD 3,700 today.
Vietnam is one of the few countries that is simultaneously a member of major international organizations and agreements, including RCEP, CPTPP, EVFTA, and APEC. This grants it preferential tariff access to key markets such as the European Union, North America, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Combined with political stability and an abundant workforce, Vietnam has become the premier choice for the relocation of global manufacturing bases in recent years.
Vietnam’s Textile and Garment Industry Requires Substantial Imports of Machinery and Raw Materials
With continued support from the Vietnamese government, the textile and garment industry maintains robust growth momentum. In the first half of 2025, export value soared to nearly USD 22 billion, a year-on-year increase of approximately 10%, reaching over 132 countries and regions worldwide. Following a challenging period, exports stabilized in 2024, with the total annual export value estimated to reach USD 44 billion and imports rising to USD 25 billion. Looking ahead, industry associations have set a target of USD 48 billion for 2025, pending further validation during the year-end peak season.
In response to rapid export growth, Vietnam's textile and garment industry must continuously expand production capacity and upgrade manufacturing technology. Meanwhile, the localization of raw materials has become a critical strategy: as of early 2025, domestic raw materials satisfy only about 40% of demand, necessitating significant imports of cotton, yarn, and fabric.
The Most Important Textile and Garment Industry Exhibition in Vietnam
Held since the 1990s, SAIGONTEX is supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (VINATEX), the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), and the Association of Garments, Textiles, Embroidery and Knitting of HCMC (AGTEK).
It is the most authoritative exhibition in Vietnam and the only one approved by UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry), guaranteeing international quality standards for exhibitors. The previous edition (2024) covered an exhibition area of 30,000 square meters, ranking as the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
For a long time, industry players have maintained a high market share and excellent reputation in the Vietnamese market, thanks to superior quality, exquisite designs, and competitive pricing.
