Trump Announces New Tariff Letters to Six Countries
U.S. President Donald Trump has recently announced the issuance of tariff letters to six countries. The details are as follows:
-
Moldova: 25% tariff
-
Algeria: 30% tariff
-
Iraq: 30% tariff
-
Libya: 30% tariff
-
Philippines: 20% tariff
-
Brunei: 25% tariff
Trump previously stated that the new tariffs would take effect on August 1, with no grace period this time.
Originally, Trump had planned to issue seven tariff letters on the morning of July 9 (U.S. time). However, as of noon, only six countries had been announced—one fewer than expected. Moreover, none of the six countries are considered particularly significant U.S. trading partners.
That said, Trump also mentioned in his earlier announcement that additional tariff letters would be released later in the afternoon of July 9.
