United Renewable Energy, stock code 3576 a leading provider of comprehensive energy solutions, has announced the groundbreaking of their "behind-the-meter energy storage" demonstration site. The site will feature a 4.2MW (4.2 million watts) energy storage system at their Tainan plant, enabling flexible use during peak periods, and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025. This initiative aims to reduce electricity costs at the plant and demonstrate the benefits of behind-the-meter energy storage, such as increased power autonomy and stable backup power.
Chairman Hung Chuan Hsien of United Renewable Energy stated, "Taiwan plays a crucial role in the global supply chain. Maintaining stable production lines and adhering to regulations is our biggest operational challenge. As a key player in the energy industry, United Renewable Energy hopes to help businesses reduce energy costs and increase flexibility through this demonstration energy storage site. We also aim to provide potential customers with clear benchmarks for planning their own energy storage solutions, further showcasing our comprehensive energy solution capabilities."
The Tainan plant already has a 4.4MW (4.4 million watts) "front-of-the-meter energy storage" demonstration site, which utilizes a digital monitoring system to precisely manage power demand and price fluctuations, creating the most flexible energy usage plan. Additionally, during past power outages in the Tainan area, this storage system has assisted Taiwan Power Company in providing emergency power output, serving as a guardian of community energy.
In Taiwan, current energy storage management is divided into "front-of-the-meter" and "behind-the-meter" systems, each with different applications. Front-of-the-meter energy storage can connect to external power grids and participate in the electricity trading market, generating revenue through buying and selling electricity. Behind-the-meter energy storage is for self-use, allowing flexible charging and discharging times, avoiding peak electricity price periods, and improving power stability, making it suitable for industrial, commercial, and residential applications.
Companies can plan suitable energy storage solutions based on their daily power needs, optimizing costs and serving as "portable power" during unexpected power outages to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. United Renewable Energy will continue to promote smart energy storage solutions, helping businesses tackle power management challenges.
