The first phase of the Changbin battery cell and module factory invested by Formosa Plastics New Intelligence has been completed and will be officially mass-produced in November. Liu Huiqi, general manager of Formosa Plastics New Intelligence, said today (4th) that the goal of full production and full sales in 2025 remains unchanged. Currently, semiconductor factories are receiving orders for UPS batteries, electric buses, etc. In addition, the all-solid-state battery trial production line will be divided into branches starting from October. The two phases are completed one after another. He also emphasized that Formosa Plastics is not only engaged in traditional petrochemical energy. As early as 27 years ago, Formosa Plastics founder Wang Yongqing had taken the lead in the new energy field.
The 2024 Taiwan International Smart Energy Week will be on display from October 4 to 6. Formosa Plastics’ new smart on-site display battery cell corridor, the latest industrial, commercial and household energy storage smart products, as well as the diverse applications of microalgae technology, etc., combined with digital audio and video to create "electricity" "Cell Corridor" presents the process technology of Changbin Battery Cell Factory for the first time.
Liu Huiqi, general manager of Formosa Plastics New Intelligence, said that under the current changes in the international political and trade situation, Taiwan's battery cells have shown significant competitive advantages. Therefore, even before the completion of the Changbin battery cell factory, many domestic and foreign manufacturers have negotiated orders. Including energy storage systems, uninterruptible power systems (UPS) and electric vehicles, etc. This year, Formosa Plastics New Intelligence will exhibit battery modules for electric buses for the first time. In the future, it will continue to use domestically produced batteries with high energy density and long cycle life to compete with Car manufacturers cooperate to develop power battery packs for use in various electric commercial vehicles and passenger cars.
Develop all-solid-state battery technology and trial production line to be completed in stages in October
Liu Huiqi also mentioned that in order to step up the next generation of battery technology and be different from the semi-solid and quasi-solid batteries that still contain electrolytes in most of the industry, Mingzhi University of Science and Technology has joined hands with Mingzhi University of Science and Technology to invest in all-solid-state battery technology that does not contain electrolytes. It is currently experimental. In the laboratory research and development verification stage, further testing and optimization will continue, and we will also prepare for mass production in 2027.
Liu Huiqi explained that the all-solid-state battery R&D trial production line will be completed in two phases starting from October, and the high safety and application scope of all-solid-state batteries will be demonstrated using a laboratory interactive concept at the exhibition venue.
Formosa Plastics New Intelligence Chairman Wang Ruiyu announced that its subsidiary Formosa Plastics Advanced Technology Co., Ltd. has officially completed the construction of a 2.1GWh lithium iron phosphate battery and module factory in Changbin Industrial Park. It has now become the largest and highly automated lithium iron battery factory in Taiwan. The production base includes eight major processes: "pulping, coating, rolling, cutting and rolling, assembly, baking, liquid injection, and formation". The entire process is produced and controlled locally, completing the most important piece of the domestic battery industry chain. This milestone will significantly enhance Taiwan's competitiveness in the global new energy market.
