Beigang Wude Palace believers in Yunlin County have been growing year by year, and the demand for burning incense and gold has increased. In response to net zero carbon emissions, the temple has built an environmentally friendly underground gold furnace that can filter suspended matter and air pollution gas. It was opened today. In addition, the temple teamed up with Taiwan Carbon Assets Company to spend 5 million yuan to offset the temple's carbon rights for more than three years. The temple officials stated that it will declare to become the world's "first carbon neutral" temple with immediate effect.

The original Tianku Golden Furnace in Wude Palace was built in 1984 and was certified by the Guinness Book of Records in 2015. However, with the increase in the number of believers visiting the temple and the physical emission reduction methods adopted by the Tianku Golden Furnace, the temple has been closed down many years ago. It took 6 years to plan and build a basement furnace. It took 6 years to build an environmentally friendly basement furnace that can filter suspended solids and air pollution gas. Today, Chairman Lin Anle of Wude Palace, Yunlin County Mayor Zhang Lishan, Beigang Town Mayor Xiao Meiwen, etc. Activate under witness.

Lin Anle said that although the environmentally friendly gold furnace can isolate PM2.5 and other suspended matter, "greenhouse gases" will inevitably be produced as long as it is burned to generate heat. Although the total carbon emissions of burning incense and gold paper in temples across Taiwan are far less than For businesses and transportation, we are still burdened by the reputation of air pollution, and this is a problem that everyone is trying to solve. By chance, I met Zhang Sanhe, chairman of Taiwan Carbon Assets Company, and he suggested that the temple should take the lead in accelerating towards the goal of carbon neutrality and gradually net zero.

Liu De'an, general manager of Taiwan Carbon Assets Company, said that after a carbon inventory of Wude Temple, the total carbon emissions from last year to September 12 this year were 3,150 metric tons. The temple spent 5 million yuan to purchase international high-quality carbon rights to achieve carbon neutrality, including Projects such as the Clean Energy and Water Source Protection Plan in Southeast Asia and International Blue Carbon all take into account the United Nations' sustainable development goals. The total amount purchased is enough to offset carbon emissions for at least three years.

Lin Anle said that from lighting incense and burning gold to all greenhouse gases generated by electricity use, all greenhouse gas emissions, whether direct or indirect, can be offset in one fell swoop. He emphasized that from now on, Wude Palace is "the first carbon-neutral temple in the world" and will be net-zero every year based on the greenhouse gas emissions obtained from the carbon inventory of the year.

Zhang Lishan said that believers should not burn incense or gold paper, so they can only encourage everyone to reduce burning paper money and incense as much as possible. She is very happy to see Wude Palace becoming a global leader and a leader in environmental protection.
