Responding to the global trend of green plastic reduction, Lin Jiannan, Chairman of Formosa Plastics (1301) announced today (29) that from 2025, Formosa Plastics will stop supplying plastic wraps, plastic bags, disposable tableware and other disposable plastics for household products , The vacated capacity will be transferred to durable or niche products such as window frames, medical-grade syringes, etc., for a comprehensive upgrade and transformation.
Plastic products such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PP (polyinnerene), and PE (polyethylene) produced by Formosa Plastics have been widely used in disposable household products such as cling film, plastic bags, and disposable tableware. In recent years, under the trend of environmental protection and plastic reduction, Formosa Plastics has been gradually transforming. Take PVC as an example. Last year, Formosa Plastics sold about 15,000 tons of disposable consumer products such as cling film and vacuum-formed packaging boxes, accounting for the total sales volume. Only 1.2% remains. In the future, by 2025, Formosa Plastics will officially stop supplying disposable plastics for consumer products, and the vacated capacity will transform its sales areas to durable products such as window frames, wall panels, and floor tiles.
PP is widely used in food packaging materials, ready-to-wear packaging bags and plastic bags for civilian use. They are all disposable products. The sales volume in 2020 is 62,000 tons, accounting for 12.8% of the total sales volume of Formosa Plastics PP. Reduce to zero, expand and expand sales of low-n-hexane precipitation syrup bottles and drug cans, anti-γ-ray medical-grade syringes, high-rigidity and heat-resistant small household appliances, coffee machines, baby bottle sterilizers and other non-disposable civilian materials; and put them into the natural environment Development of biodegradable PP composite materials.
